WORKSHOP DETAILS

  • Following on from our macro session, our full day workshop is looking to expand on your macro photography with different lighting techniques such as backlighting, high key and reflections, all from the comfort of the studio with exciting subjects.

Working with our good friends at Wilkinson Cameras and Animal Teach, we're really pleased to be able to offer an informative day in a well set up studio with fantastic subjects. Before the session we will send through a video presentation on getting started with macro photography, as a refresher to the subject, but if you have never done any macro we would suggest starting with our macro session.

The session will begin with a welcome tea/coffee and the Wild Arena tutor will go through the camera set up for the session and what subjects we will have available. You will then have the opportunity to capture your own pictures, of these exciting animals, on a bespoke set up to ensure you go away with captivating images. We hope to include some rain, reflection and high key set ups to give you some very different looking images. With a small group size of only 6 there will be plenty of time for each person to get images. We will be working with two set ups throughout the day, one showing how to get the best from constant lighting and one from studio lighting. These sets will work in very different ways, but this should allow you to leave the session with plenty of information on different lighting scenarios and ideas for pushing the creativity of your images.

  • "I highly recommend a macro photography session with Kevin Morgans, Animal Teach, and Wild Arena at the Wilkinson' camera shop in Liverpool. Great experience, beautiful animals, and loads of help and advice from Kevin Morgans. Naomi really knows her animals and keeps them in tip top condition too"

  • “I had a wonderful time on a Carneddau pony workshop with Kevin, which, given the weather, was an amazing achievement! When I look at the photos I took, I can see a difference between those I took with Kevin’s guidance and what I would have taken on my own. I have more variety and they are technically better. I’m really chuffed to feel that I learned something and I loved the ponies and locations. As well as that, I enjoyed Kevin’s company and appreciated that he went ahead despite the weather conditions (prolonged pouring rain), that he was so good-natured about it all, and that he picked me up from the hotel! It was great to get expert and knowledgeable guidance from such a skilled, award-winning photographer. During the day, Kevin focussed on helping me (rather than taking his own photos) which I appreciated very much. I can highly recommend Kevin’s workshops. ”

  • Just spent the day on the Macro workshop with Kev and Naomi in Liverpool. Wow. What an experience. So patient and knowledgeable. • “Dear Kev, Naomi, Wild Arena, and the Wilkinsons Team, Thank you for an excellent and informative workshop in Liverpool.  I believe that all of the clients enjoyed your session, and we got some great images of the well-behaved subjects. You provided good advice for each of us individually, and we each commented on how much we had learned about our macro photography, whatever our experience. Some of us were using manual settings for the first time, some were using different lens setups, and others were trying focus stacking. All of us found the use of the perspex panels a game-changer for our compositions. The lighting setup at the store also allowed some experimentation at the end of the day. Naomi's subject selection, use of backgrounds, and handling experience were invaluable”
